SISTERS IN SOLIDARITY

Sisters in Solidarity (SIS) began as an initiative created to cultivate BIPOC Women-led Social Purpose Organizations across Canada through capacity building and future skills development.

ABOUT US

Our enhanced equity lens has broadened our scope of empowering work. The principles of Sankofa and Ubuntu are “go back and fetch it”, and “I am because we are”.

The sustainable livelihoods and well-being of women and children is our priority. Our expansive and vital mandate is to scale diversity, innovation, and inclusion in the following ecosystems in Canada.

Education
Affordable Housing
Agricultural Development (Food Rescue)
Social Entrepreneurship
Descent Work
Community Finance
Community Benefit Agreements
Social Procurement
Worker-Owned Cooperatives
Social Finance
Impact Investing

At SIS we have a set of values, principles, and shared imperatives. These eleven aforementioned ecosystems guide our strategic planning, activities, as well as programs and project outcomes. Our imperatives go beyond how we approach our work, they speak to who we are as a community.

Our collective imperatives stem from our belief that sustainable impact is possible when we eliminate silos and work together in the spirit of Ujima “collective work and responsibility”.

WHAT WE DO

As a capacity-building intermediary, we implement projects, facilitate programs, provide training, coaching, and technical assistance. We also facilitate gatherings and convene community members to create inclusive spaces for open dialogue around, and action toward, meaningful change.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Shared Action Initiative (SAI)

Our shared action initiative is a series of gatherings to decolonize trusteeship and grantmaking and enhance impact measurement. Social purpose organizations, social enterprises, and non-profits often struggle with navigating funding supports and measuring impact. The (SAI) will improve ecosystem mobilization, knowledge mobilization, and advance understanding of impact for community leaders.

Our Well-Being Initiative

Our mental health and well-being as a community are important. Our Well-Being Initiative supports our Sisters with access to culturally appropriate mental health experts and professionals and wellness sessions at no cost.

Her Community Finance Program

This intergenerational and healing program will provide women ages 19 – 35 with the opportunity to focus on community economic development and financial literacy.

Her Community Finance Program is committed to advancing inclusion, diversity, and economic well-being for our Sisters in Canada. Our partnerships are built on a shared commitment to developing new ways to use the capital for the purpose of systemic transformation.

Our aim in the Her Community Finance Program is to leverage power and privilege to actualize financial literacy, economic inclusion, and most important belonging. This program is customized for our Sisters, providing coaching, mentorship, and networking supports.

Applications close on March 31st, 2022, and the program itself runs from May 5th to September 21st.

Sister to Sister

When you build the capacity of a woman you scale an entire nation.

Our Sister to Sister program provides young girls ages 10 – 15 with the opportunity to focus on elements of mental wellness in ways that will open their minds and to new perspectives around seeking support through sisterhood, self-care, and mentorship.
